Official Written Translations

COSMOS Ltd. is authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria to perform official translations of documents and prepare them for further legalization. The translations are carried out by qualified translators with guaranteed high quality, professional formatting and deadlines tailored to the needs of our clients. The company guarantees the accuracy of the translations performed.

TRANSLATIONS IN THE FIELD OF:

The legalization process certifies the authenticity (validity) of any document issued in the Republic of Bulgaria and subject to legalization. Legalization is carried out by the “Consular Relations” Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and additionally by the respective Ministry depending on the type of document.

The deadlines for legalization are three:

• regular
• fast
• express

They depend strictly on each individual document.

Whether a document will be legalized or accompanied only by a certified translation depends on how it is required to be presented abroad.

Certification of Bulgarian documents in foreign embassies/consulates in the Republic of Bulgaria.

Legalization of documents is the certification of the authenticity of the document. It is performed for documents needed abroad or issued abroad. Legalization consists of certifications in various state or private institutions, with the final instance in Bulgaria being the “Consular Relations” Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Documents from abroad

All official documents issued abroad are subject to legalization and/or certification of the accuracy of their translation. Bulgaria has ratified the Hague Convention of 5 October 1961, which abolishes the requirement for legalization of foreign public documents. According to this convention, all documents issued by countries that have ratified it must bear an APOSTILLE – a stamp placed by the authorized authorities in the respective country.
There is also another regime for legalization based on bilateral agreements for legal assistance. These are agreements between Bulgaria and other countries (e.g., former socialist states). However, the MFA may refuse legalization due to specific conditions in the agreement or changes in international relations.

Documents for abroad

Almost always, official documents intended for abroad require legalization and/or certification of the translation. They must pass through several certifications confirming their authenticity. For example, a criminal record certificate must be in original, then certified by the Ministry of Justice, where it receives an APOSTILLE. After that, it is translated and the translation is certified by the “Consular Relations” Department at the MFA.
