DIAGNOSTIC TESTING

SMDL “Microbiolab” performs microbiological diagnostics of a wide range of infections by examining the following materials: sera, urine (uroculture), vaginal, cervical, prostatic, urethral, throat, nasal, ocular, ear samples, Legionella, swabs, scrapings, sputum and wound secretions.

The laboratory also performs highly specialized testing with isolation and identification of obligate anaerobes /genera Clostridium, Bacteroides, Fusobacterium, Prevotella, Porphyromonas, Bilophila, Veillonella, Peptostreptococcus, Actinomyces, Propionibacterium, Bifidobacterium, Eubacterium/ isolated from various clinical materials – wound secretions, exudates, dental materials. Clostridium difficile is diagnosed and toxins A and B are determined directly in feces of patients with antibiotic‑associated diarrhea and pseudomembranous colitis.

Fecal samples are tested for pathogenic intestinal bacteria – Salmonella, Shigella, diarrheagenic E.coli, Campylobacter.

Diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori, the cause of gastritis, peptic ulcer disease and stomach carcinoma, is performed using a fecal antigen test.

Clinical materials from patients – sera and urine – are tested for Legionella and Legionnaires’ disease.

The laboratory performs serological testing for Campylobacter and Yersinia enterocolitica /Y. enterocolitica O3 and O9/, causes of reactive arthritis and Guillain‑Barré syndrome, as well as serological testing for brucellosis: B.abortus and B.melitensis, causes of diseases in livestock, and B.canis – canine brucellosis.

Serological testing for felinosis, cat scratch disease, detecting antibodies against Bartonella quintana and Bartonella henselae.

Sanitary‑microbiological testing of work surfaces and personnel hands, water samples from swimming pools and drinking water, as well as testing water from showers and plumbing systems for Legionella.

Parasitological testing includes: examinations, consultations, testing for toxoplasmosis, toxoplasmosis and pregnancy, echinococcosis (dog tapeworm), trichinellosis, toxocariasis, urogenital trichomoniasis, intestinal parasites, consultations for travel to tropical countries, malaria prevention and other tropical parasitic diseases, treatment and follow‑up.
