24/7 care for severe conditions and postoperative recovery
The hospice accepts patients from all over the country, around the clock, to provide help where it becomes overwhelming for the family. We provide 24/7 medical supervision, hygiene care, meals and rehabilitation. We are located in the building of the local hospital, which ensures immediate access to specialists and emergency care. Meals are served four times a day. The rooms are bright, with high ceilings, each with a private bathroom, and are cleaned regularly. You may install your own video camera in your relative’s room after signing a personal data declaration, and you may also bring your own trusted caregiver to the hospice or stay with the patient in the same room. We assist with specialized transport upon admission. For current prices, please visit our website.
We provide 24/7 medical and daily living care for patients in mild, moderate and particularly severe condition:
We perform all prescribed medical procedures (injections, dressing changes, wound care, IV infusions, blood sampling, medication administration, catheter placement and more).
We assist immobile patients with bathing, changing clothes and bedding, using the toilet, laundry, haircuts, feeding and more.
We offer physiotherapy (rehabilitation).

A hospice is a type of medical facility, while a nursing home is a type of residential care. Hospices provide medical care for patients recovering from illness or for patients with severe chronic conditions that are not expected to be cured (these are so‑called “supportive” or “palliative” care).
Legally, hospices are a medical service and are regulated by the Ministry of Health. Nursing homes are a social service and are regulated by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy. Hospices must meet requirements regarding equipment, staff qualifications, hygiene measures and more.
Unfortunately, many nursing homes add “hospice” to their name without having a hospice license and offer care for chronically ill elderly people without the required medical qualification.
You can check whether a facility has a hospice license in the public registers on the website of the Regional Health Inspectorate (RHI) for the respective municipality.
To check the license of hospice “St. Nikola Mirlikiyski”, visit the public registers of RHI Targovishte.

We offer meals four times a day. Food is delivered by an external kitchen. The menu is varied and tailored to each patient’s prescribed dietary regimen.
For patients outside Popovo, as well as from the town itself, we assist with arranging specialized transport.
The location of the hospice in the same building as “MBAL Popovo” facilitates visits to medical offices and laboratories.
For all other cases (tests in other hospitals, visiting relatives, administrative services, etc.), we can provide both specialized transport and an escort, for an additional fee.
