The art was a product of the ancient Bulgarian tradition of home-weaving and foreign influences. The women of Kotel drew from both sources, and out of their creativity and semsitivity arose the authentic Kotel School of Carpet Weaving. Still today, the women weavers of the Kotel region use the same technique, which produces two front sides of equal value. And still today they keep to the classical designs with their geometric patterns and gay colours, patterns preserved over centuries, generally a particular pettern for a particular festive occasion.
