Photovoltaic – What is it?
The simplest explanation: The production of electric current through solar energy.

How does this system work?
Extremely thin layers of silicon are applied onto glass or foil. When light hits them, they generate voltage. The more silicon layers are applied per unit area, the higher the productivity of that area. The surface on which the silicon cells are placed is called a solar panel.

How long do solar cells maintain optimal performance?
At the Fraunhofer Institute in Freiburg it was found that panels in operation for 10 years show no power loss. After 20 years of use, the panels are still within acceptable deviation limits (approx. 5%).

What operating costs should be expected?
Here you should calculate a maximum of 1% of the total investment.

What applications exist?
Photovoltaics are mainly used in two ways:
Grid‑connected systems – This is the most commonly used form. The generated energy is fed directly into the power grid. An additional electricity meter must be installed.
Off‑grid systems (island systems) – These are used mainly in small countryside gardens, mountain huts, apiaries, etc. Here the generated voltage is used directly or converted with an inverter into 230V AC.
